We opened our doors on August 31st of 2006 as Repeat Performance Sports here in Bend, Oregon. We focused entirely on low cost used outdoor gear & sporting goods. In October of 2008 Repeat Performance was purchased by one of the new employees of the shop, Josh.
Josh’s vision for the shop was to be a resource for our local community and the outdoor community as a whole. He envisioned the shop as a sort of modern day trading post for outdoor gear. He even, very confidently, declared to the community that we would be adding a full service repair shop for all things outdoor that coming spring! After realizing how difficult that proclamation would be to fulfill in the current building, we decided to focus on ski repair.
In October of 2010 we moved the shop from Colorado Ave. over to Century Dr. to our current location (We Got Windows!). As we continued to add and improve our ski repair & service shop, we decided to fully delve into bike repair & maintenance that summer. There were and are many great bike shops in Bend, but we felt that there was a segment of the population that wasn’t being served at the time, and we felt like we could fill that void.
In December of 2012 we were approached by Mountain Soles (out of Portland), knowing that we were looking to be a repair shop for “all things outdoor.” They had decided to stop doing climbing shoe & outdoor footwear resoles & repairs. In typical fashion, we decided to purchase all of their equipment and move the repairs down to our shop in Bend, OR just 3 weeks after this conversation (we’ve got some stories . . .).
After lots and lots and lots of practice, and pestering established cobblers for advice and training, we officially took our first pair of customer shoes in at the end of March of 2013 and have been constantly improving our technique ever since. As of May of 2014, we’re closing in on 1000 pairs of resoled climbing shoes!
Next up, came the sewing repairs. This is something the shop has been working on since the beginning but we really wanted to take it to the next level. We got lucky in finding an amazing seamstress who can not only sew just about anything, but actually uses this gear as well. We officially started taking in outdoor gear for sewing repairs in the fall of 2013 and it has been growing ever since.
In February of 2014 we officially changed the name from Repeat Performance Sports to the Gear Fix in an effort to promote our service & repair work & to re-emphasize that we are your outdoor gear shop.
We continue to resale the highest quality outdoor gear we can find on consignment, but we also have the capabilities to service & repair your gear as well. We are continually striving to improve what we do and we hope you’ll join us in our efforts to do so.
We hope to start offering classes, clinics, and even more repair services to compliment our outdoor gear shop in the coming months.
